The Hearing Loss section is the newest bilingual addition to the existing Hall of Human Life exhibit at the Museum of Science. In working on this set of exhibit components, we collaborated with individuals with lived experiences of hearing loss to tell a comprehensive story of hearing safety, communication, and existing and developing hearing technologies.
The hearing puzzle introduces the basics of the ear, combining projected animation and tactile pieces to tell how each part works and what can cause any part of the hearing system to stop working.
Hearing loss is not just the loss of sound, but often a loss of communication and connection with those around you. We worked with Hero4Hire to animate Stories of Hearing Loss, a theater experience that brings to life the personal stories of four individuals and their relationship with their own hearing loss.
